Common salary to hourly conversions

Based on a standard 40-hour week (2,080 hours a year). Tap any salary to load it into the calculator above.

How to use it

Enter your gross annual salary at the top of the board — or drag the gold slider — and the hourly figure counts up in real time. Below it, the paystub splits that salary into every pay period you might be quoted in: per day, per week, every two weeks, per month, and per year.

The board assumes a standard 40-hour week across all 52 weeks (2,080 hours a year). Work part-time, take unpaid weeks, or put in longer days? Change Hours / week and Weeks / year and every number updates instantly. To see what actually reaches your bank account, switch to After tax and pick your state — the paystub then itemizes federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare, and state tax so you know exactly where the money goes.

Common questions

How do I convert my salary to an hourly rate?

Divide your annual salary by the hours you work in a year. A standard full-time year is 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours, so a $60,000 salary is $60,000 ÷ 2,080 = $28.85 per hour. This tool does the math and lets you adjust the hours and weeks to match your real schedule.

How do I calculate my hourly rate with overtime?

Find your base rate (salary ÷ yearly hours). In the US, non-exempt employees earn 1.5× that base rate for hours beyond 40 in a week — so a $28.85 base becomes $43.28 per overtime hour. Salaried exempt workers usually get no separate overtime, so their effective hourly rate falls the more hours they work.

What's the difference between gross and take-home pay?

Gross pay is your salary before deductions. Take-home (net) pay is what's left after federal income tax, Social Security (6.2%), Medicare (1.45%), and any state income tax. The After-tax view here gives a single-filer estimate — your real paycheck also depends on filing status, retirement contributions, and benefits.

How do I convert salary to hourly for part-time or 30 hours a week?

Divide your salary by your actual yearly hours, not 2,080. At 30 hours a week × 52 weeks that's 1,560 hours, so a $45,000 part-time salary is $45,000 ÷ 1,560 = $28.85 per hour. Set Hours / week to 30 (or 20) and the calculator adjusts automatically.

How many working hours are in a year?

A standard full-time year is 2,080 hours (40 × 52). Two weeks of unpaid leave brings it to about 2,000. Set the weeks field to match your paid time for an accurate figure.
